Harlem Shooter Sentenced to 17 Years in State Prison

NEW YORK, NY – Hector Rivera, 38, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the 2021 shooting of a 23-year-old man in Harlem.

On August 28, a jury found Rivera guilty on all counts, which included Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree.

The shooting occurred on April 17, 2021, near the intersection of West 133rd Street and Lenox Avenue. Rivera had been tracking the victim, whom he believed was responsible for an earlier assault on him.

Rivera approached the victim and fired three shots, severely injuring him.

Rivera was arrested approximately two months after the shooting in Brooklyn. The case was handled by Assistant D.A.s Rachel Polisner and Kaleigh Shea.
