ELIZABETH, NJ – Michael Rogers, an Elizabeth resident, received a 60-year prison sentence for the 2021 murder of Antwoine Thompson.

Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, along with Elizabeth police officials, announced the sentencing following Rogers’ conviction in May.

The shooting, which occurred on April 26, 2021, left Thompson with multiple gunshot wounds.

Elizabeth Police found Thompson at the intersection of Second and Bond streets, and he was declared deceased at Trinitas Regional Medical Center shortly before 3 pm that day.

Rogers was convicted of first-degree murder and weapons charges and must serve 85% of his sentence before parole eligibility. The substantial sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the community’s stance on violent offenses.
