In an effort to enhance public safety, the Jackson Township Council is set to introduce an ordinance aimed at restricting on-street parking near busy county highway intersections. The proposed regulation would prohibit parking on public roads within 50 feet of these intersections. Additionally, residents living within 51 to 100 feet from the county highways will be required to obtain a permit for parking, though these permits will be issued free of charge.
Jackson Township Mayor Michael Reina emphasized the necessity of this ordinance for public safety, commending Council President Jennifer Kuhn and Councilman Mordechai Burnstein for their collaboration with county officials and the Jackson Police Department in formulating this initiative.
Councilman Burnstein highlighted the longstanding safety concerns posed by the current parking situation, acknowledging the role of the Jackson Police Department and Commissioners Sadeghi and Quinn in developing the ordinance.
Council President Jennifer Kuhn, who devoted significant time to drafting the ordinance, placed the vote on the agenda for Tuesday night’s council meeting. Kuhn collaborated extensively with Jackson Chief Kunz, the Jackson Police Traffic Safety Bureau, the Department of Public Works, Jackson Engineer T. & M., and Business Administrator Wall in preparation for the meeting.
