BEL AIR, Md. – A 16-year-old girl was killed and a 17-year-old boy critically injured Thursday afternoon in a Harford County crash involving two cars and a school bus, authorities said.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly after 2 p.m. to Route 543 at Crescent Knoll Drive. Investigators determined the teens’ vehicle was stopped northbound, waiting to turn left, when it was struck from behind by another car and forced into the path of a southbound Harford County Public Schools bus.

The 16-year-old female passenger died at the scene, while the 17-year-old male driver was flown to a trauma center with serious injuries.

The 39-year-old man driving the car that struck them was not hurt. All vehicles remained at the scene.

The bus was carrying students, who were evacuated and transferred to another bus. Six students were transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit continues to investigate.
