Washington, D.C. – Peter Michael Krill, Jr., a 55-year-old man from Sewell, New Jersey, was sentenced today for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. The incident interrupted a joint session of Congress tasked with certifying the 2020 presidential election results.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge James E. Boasberg handed down a sentence of nine months in prison followed by 12 months of supervised release. Additionally, Krill is required to pay $2,000 in restitution. He had pleaded guilty to a felony charge of civil disorder on Oct. 10, 2023.
Court records reveal that Krill traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in the “Stop the Steal” rally. Dressed in camouflage pants, a “Trump 2020” sweatshirt, and equipped with a helmet and goggles, he joined a large crowd moving toward the Capitol. At around 1:35 p.m., Krill was at the forefront of a confrontation with law enforcement as he and others dismantled bike rack barriers, breaching the Capitol’s perimeter.
Krill escalated his involvement by climbing the scaffolding on the west side of the Capitol, from where he posted videos to his TikTok account showing the chaos below. He entered the Capitol building around 2:36 p.m. and remained in the Rotunda despite police orders to vacate, making him one of the last rioters to leave the area.
The FBI arrested Krill on Dec. 15, 2022, in New Jersey for his actions during the Capitol riot. His sentencing today concludes his legal proceedings related to the events of Jan. 6, marking another individual held accountable for disrupting the constitutional process.
