Human Remains Found in Southwest D.C. Identified as Homicide Victim

Washington, D.C. – Detectives from the D.C. Metro Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide following the discovery of human remains in a wooded area in Southwest Washington, D.C.

On Friday, officers were called to the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, where they discovered adult human remains in an advanced state of decomposition. The remains were subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where the cause of death was determined to be gunshot injuries.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Leon Powell of Southeast, D.C. The police department encourages anyone with information about this case to contact them at 202-727-9099.
