ADELPHI, MD — The Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit has apprehended 36-year-old Jamar Welch Sr. of Takoma Park, charging him with the murder of 43-year-old Charles Dent of Hyattsville.
The incident occurred on March 23, at around 6:45 PM, when police were called to the 1800 block of Metzerott Road due to a shooting report. Upon arrival, officers discovered Dent outside with a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigations suggest the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the victim and suspect, who were known to each other. Welch was arrested in Washington, DC, and is awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County, facing charges of first and second degree murder among others.
