BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentencing of Carlis Clarke, a 28-year-old man from Crown Heights, to 15 years to life in prison. The sentencing, handed down by Supreme Court Justice Christopher Robles, comes after Clarke’s conviction for sexually assaulting two women in separate incidents in Prospect Park.

Clarke was found guilty on March 18 of predatory sexual assault, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, and one count of second-degree assault. In the first reported attack on March 11, 2019, Clarke assaulted a 25-year-old woman by dragging her off a path and into the woods. The assault was interrupted, allowing the victim to escape. The second incident on February 23, 2021, involved a 33-year-old woman who was also dragged into the woods and assaulted until a passerby intervened. Clarke was later identified and apprehended with the help of DNA evidence linked to the earlier assault. The district attorney praised the victims for their courage in testifying, which helped secure the conviction and sentencing.
