BRONX, NY—A Rikers Island inmate has been indicted on charges of second-degree Assault and other offenses after allegedly attacking a New York City Department of Correction Officer.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark reported that the officer was assaulted after following standard procedures to lock the inmate’s cell door.
Tymirh Bey-Foster, 21, is accused of punching the officer in the face when the cell door was reopened, causing her head to hit a wall and knocking her briefly unconscious.
The officer sustained serious injuries, including facial fractures and a deep laceration requiring sutures. Foster faces additional charges of third-degree Assault and Obstructing Governmental Administration.
He was arraigned on April 16, 2024, before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Kim Parker, with bail set at $50,000 cash. Foster is due back in court on June 20, 2024.
