Admired Jackson Township school teacher named new mayor of Brick Township

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – John Ducey, the well-respected former mayor of Brick Township is out. Ducey resigned last week after being nominated to serve as New Jersey judge. Last night, the Brick Township council named Lisa Crate, a teacher in the Jackson school district and president of the Jackson Education Association as the town’s interim mayor.

Crate serves as a councilwoman in Brick. She was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. Currently, Crate has not filed to run for mayor against embattled GOP opponent John Catalano. It is expected that the Brick Democrats will nominate Crate for mayor in the 2023 special election.

Mayor Crate has served on the Council since 2016. She served as Council President in 2020 and 2021 and as Council Vice-President in 2018, 2019, and 2022.

Crate spoke about the accomplishments of the township over the past eight years and stressed the importance of community over politics as Brick Township continues to shine as one of the more successful business communities in Ocean County.
