Baltimore county officer released from shock trauma after line-of-duty shooting

Officer P. Catalfamo has been released from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center weeks after he was critically wounded while responding to a call along the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail.

A Baltimore County police officer critically injured in a line-of-duty shooting earlier this month has been released from the hospital and continues his recovery surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers.

The Baltimore County Police Department announced that Officer P. Catalfamo was released Wednesday evening from the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he had been receiving treatment since the June 7 shooting.

Officer wounded while responding to call

Catalfamo was shot while responding to a call for service along the Milford Mill Gwynn Falls Trail off Milford Mill Road, according to the department. The officer suffered critical injuries and remained hospitalized as medical teams worked to stabilize and treat him.

Since the shooting, department officials said Catalfamo has displayed extraordinary determination throughout his recovery.

“His positive attitude is infectious, and the way he has faced this challenge has been nothing short of inspirational,” one fellow officer said. “The same strength and character he showed in the academy are the same qualities carrying him through his recovery. I am proud to call him a friend and brother.”

Fellow officers praise resilience and character

Officers who trained alongside Catalfamo described him as someone known for his contagious smile, positive attitude, and willingness to help others.

Family members said many of those qualities were shaped during his years in the Boy Scouts. They noted that the values of service, leadership, integrity, and helping others remained central to his life and career in law enforcement.

Loved ones also highlighted his strong work ethic, describing it as one of the traits that has defined him both personally and professionally.

Emotional hospital departure marks milestone

When Catalfamo left the hospital Wednesday, he was surrounded by family members and fellow officers who lined the halls of Shock Trauma to celebrate his release.

The Baltimore County Police Department said the officer still faces a recovery process and asked the public to respect the privacy of Catalfamo and his family. Officials said no additional details regarding his medical treatment or recovery will be released at this time.
