Parents Arrested in Fatal Child Abuse Case
**Baltimore, MD** – The Baltimore Police Department reported that the parents of a deceased 5-year-old girl have been arrested. The child, Zona Byrd, passed away on October 14th in the 2200 block of Aiken Street.
Homicide detectives have apprehended the girl’s parents, Bernice Betty Byrd, 32, and Gerald Byrd, 34. They have been charged with first and second-degree child abuse and child neglect resulting in death.
Following their arrest, the parents were taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
The cause of Zona Byrd’s death has not yet been determined. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work on uncovering further details.
