BALTIMORE— Mayor Brandon M. Scott and the Baltimore City Office of Broadband and Digital Equity (BDE) released a report Wednesday detailing significant advancements in broadband access and digital inclusion efforts across the city.
The report, Broadband and Digital Equity: Progress, Success and Lessons Learned, highlights key initiatives that have helped bridge the digital divide, including expanded free public Wi-Fi, digital skills training, and device distribution programs.
“Through targeted investments, thoughtful partnerships, and community-driven initiatives, we are making real progress in closing the digital divide,” Mayor Scott said. “This report highlights the impact of our approach and reaffirms our commitment to ensuring every resident has the tools and access needed to thrive in a connected world.”
Among the city’s key achievements is the expansion of FreeBmoreWiFi, providing free public Wi-Fi to underserved neighborhoods, along with digital training programs and the distribution of thousands of devices through the Baltimore Chromebook Distribution Program.
Looking ahead, Baltimore plans to further expand affordable broadband to public housing, enhance digital skills training for youth and seniors, and strengthen partnerships with community organizations.
City officials say the initiatives mark critical steps toward closing Baltimore’s digital divide once and for all.
