Bellerose Man Charged with Grand Larceny for $40,000 Check Fraud Scheme

April 9, 2024

QUEENS, NY – Eduardo Soto has been indicted on multiple charges including grand larceny and possessing forged instruments, after allegedly depositing over $40,000 in stolen and counterfeit checks into his bank account, announced Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. The investigation was sparked in July 2023 when a Forest Hills resident reported unauthorized transactions and missing checks, leading to the discovery of additional victims and Soto’s subsequent arrest.

The coordinated effort between Congresswoman Grace Meng, the US Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and the NYPD was pivotal in identifying and apprehending Soto. District Attorney Katz emphasized the commitment to prosecuting fraudulent activities and educating the public on safeguarding against such crimes. USPIS Inspector in Charge Daniel B. Brubaker highlighted the importance of the arrest in maintaining the integrity of the Postal Service and the financial well-being of the community.

Soto, 42, from Bellerose, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on the charges laid out in a 32-count criminal court complaint. The charges include grand larceny, possession of stolen property, possession of forged instruments, and unlawful possession of personal identification. Queens Criminal Court Judge Julieta Lozano has scheduled Soto to reappear in court on May 13.
