Structural crack found after precinct boiler incident in Baltimore County
PERRY HALL, MD – A county employee was hospitalized Monday morning after a boiler-related explosion rocked a Baltimore County police precinct, prompting an emergency response and a structural evaluation of the building.
Around 10:50 a.m., Baltimore County Fire Department crews responded to Precinct 9 at 8220 Perry Hall Boulevard following reports of an explosion. Units from the Fullerton Fire Station arrived within minutes and quickly determined that there was no active fire.
The incident involved a boiler malfunction inside the building, which injured a county worker who was performing maintenance at the time. The employee was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with non-critical injuries.
Out of an abundance of caution, the incident commander on scene requested a structural assessment after spotting a visible crack in part of the building. A county engineer was called in to inspect the site, and officials later confirmed the building is safe and remains fully operational.
No other injuries were reported, and all operations at the precinct resumed shortly after emergency crews cleared the scene. The exact cause of the boiler incident remains under review.
