BOSTON, MA – A Dorchester man was arrested Thursday evening after police recovered a pair of stolen skis that were listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, according to the Boston Police Department.

Around 5:55 p.m. on January 1, officers assigned to District C-6 in South Boston were contacted by a victim who reported seeing his stolen skis advertised online. The victim had previously filed a theft report and provided officers with new details from the online listing.

Police arranged to meet the seller near Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street. During the investigation, officers learned the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Tyrone Snead of Dorchester, had an active warrant issued by Roxbury District Court for possession of a Class B substance.

Officers located Snead in the lobby of 155 Northampton Street, where the stolen skis were found propped against a fence. After verifying the skis matched the Marketplace listing, officers identified themselves and placed Snead under arrest without incident. The stolen property was returned to the victim.

Snead is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court on charges of receiving stolen property over $1,200.

Police reminded residents to utilize the “Safe Exchange Zones” located at every Boston Police District Station and Headquarters when conducting online sales or purchases. These monitored areas are available 24 hours a day and are designed to reduce risks during in-person transactions.
