A man allegedly armed with a wooden pole and a cinderblock damaged multiple parked vehicles in East Boston before officers tracked him down nearby, police said.
BOSTON, Mass. — A 27-year-old Roxbury man was arrested Sunday after police say he went on a vandalism spree that left multiple parked vehicles damaged in East Boston.
Officers responded at about 5:13 p.m. on July 12 to the area of 279 Sumner Street for a report of vandalism in progress.
While en route, officers received updated information that the suspect was using a wooden pole to smash vehicle windows.
When officers arrived, they located a man matching the suspect’s description carrying a wooden stick and took him into custody.
According to investigators, witnesses told officers the suspect removed a wooden support stake from a recently planted tree and used it to smash windows, side mirrors and damage several parked vehicles. Officers also recovered a cinderblock at the scene that they believe was used to break vehicle glass.
During the booking process, officers said they recovered a United States Permanent Resident Card and a Social Security card containing information that did not match the suspect’s identification.
Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Revanth Kumar Mahesh, of Roxbury.
Mahesh is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court on multiple charges, including forgery.
The charges are allegations, and Mahesh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
