Meth and mushroom grow operation uncovered in Irwin home as teen faces child endangerment charges

A SWAT-backed search of an Irwin residence uncovered investigators’ alleged discovery of methamphetamine, a psilocybin mushroom grow operation and other drugs, leading to multiple felony charges against an 18-year-old, authorities said.

IRWIN, Pa. — An 18-year-old Irwin man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators executed a search warrant at his residence and allegedly discovered methamphetamine, a psilocybin mushroom grow operation and other controlled substances, according to Westmoreland County authorities.

The search warrant was executed July 10 by the Irwin Police Department and the Westmoreland County SWAT Team at a residence in the 200 block of Main Street.

According to investigators, officers found a cooler containing a psilocybin mushroom grow operation, vials of psilocybin mushroom spores, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, THC cartridges, pills, drug paraphernalia and pipes allegedly used to consume methamphetamine and crack cocaine.

Authorities identified the suspect as 18-year-old Zadyn Smith.

Smith is charged with drug possession and possession with intent to deliver.

Investigators also allege Smith’s 16-year-old live-in girlfriend had direct access to the narcotics found inside the residence. As a result, Smith was additionally charged with corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.
