BOSTON, Mass. — An early morning patrol in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood led to the arrest of a 16-year-old after officers recovered a loaded handgun, according to the Boston Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:13 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Park Street and Claybourne Street.

Officers assigned to District 3 (Mattapan) were patrolling near Washington Street and Park Street when they observed two juveniles crossing the intersection.

According to police, officers approached the juveniles and began speaking with them. As officers exited their cruiser, they made observations that led them to conduct a pat-frisk.

During the frisk, an officer felt what was described as a hard object in one juvenile’s waistband.

Police recovered a brown Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum loaded with five rounds of .357 ammunition.

District detectives responded to the scene and took custody of the firearm.
