25 year old charged after fatal shooting of 16 year old in Columbus

A 16-year-old boy died after being shot in Columbus, and police say the suspected gunman has now surrendered to authorities.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy earlier this week, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

The shooting occurred at approximately 7:21 p.m. on July 7 near the intersection of East 18th Avenue and Dora Avenue.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found 16-year-old Kevin Laurin suffering from a gunshot wound.

Laurin was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, detectives identified 25-year-old Mi’Sean Griffin as the suspect.

After a murder charge was filed, Griffin turned himself in at the Franklin County Jail, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
