Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced today that Adam Thomas, a 33-year-old man from the Bronx, has been sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. Thomas was convicted for the fatal shooting of a man inside his ex-girlfriend’s home in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, in a violent act fueled by jealousy.
In a tragic incident on December 18, 2021, Thomas broke into the home, wearing a black ski-mask, and engaged in a confrontation with 30-year-old Justin Moncada. After a struggle, Thomas fired 16 shots through a bedroom door, fatally wounding Moncada with a bullet to the head. This act of violence not only claimed Moncada’s life but also terrorized the victim’s family, including a mother and her young daughter at gunpoint.
Thomas, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on January 9, 2024, was sentenced today by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Warin. His actions on that night and the subsequent legal proceedings have culminated in a substantial prison term, holding him accountable for the irreversible harm caused to the victim’s family and the broader community.
