Brooklyn man arrested after police chase, drug possession and weapons charges filed

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A man was arrested following a high-speed chase in Brooklyn after officers spotted a tan Honda Accord with dark-tinted windows, police said.

The incident began near 4th Avenue and 39th Street, where a person reported to the police that the male driver had flashed a gun at them. NYPD officers from the 72nd and 66th Precincts attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply and fled recklessly, running multiple red lights and endangering other drivers and pedestrians, according to authorities.

Officers pursued the suspect through Brooklyn streets before successfully boxing in the car at 9th Avenue and 47th Street. The male driver and a female passenger were apprehended at the scene.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered a significant quantity of methamphetamine, a knife, and a stolen license plate. However, no firearm was found.

The driver was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance: Methamphetamine
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle
  • Criminal possession of stolen property: Possession of a credit card
  • Criminal possession of a weapon
  • Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Menacing

The female passenger was released without charges, according to police. The investigation remains ongoing.
