Brooklyn man gets 15 years to life for killing his mother in Bay Ridge apartment

Life sentence handed down in Brooklyn killing

Brooklyn, NY – A family argument behind a closed apartment door ended in fatal violence, and on Friday a Brooklyn man was sentenced to spend decades behind bars for stabbing his mother to death inside her Bay Ridge home.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced that Vladislav Deshkovich, 32, of Bay Ridge, was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. The sentence was imposed by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Dineen Riviezzo.

Prosecutors said the killing occurred on December 1, at about 7:40 p.m., inside an apartment on 93rd Street. According to the evidence, Deshkovich went to his mother’s apartment, where an argument broke out. A neighbor overheard the dispute and knocked on the door, at which point Deshkovich told her everything was fine.

Shortly afterward, the neighbor saw Deshkovich fleeing the apartment. When she returned, she found the victim, 54-year-old Inna Deshkovich, lying unresponsive in a pool of blood.

Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. An autopsy later revealed she suffered 18 stab wounds, including multiple wounds to her face.

Police arrested Deshkovich later that night. Authorities said he was found with blood on his clothing, which DNA testing later confirmed belonged to his mother.

Deshkovich pleaded guilty on January 9 to second-degree murder. The case was prosecuted by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau.
