Brush fire contained at recycling facility in Tinton Falls

TINTON FALLS, N.J. — A large brush fire at Mazza’s Recycling facility on Shafto Road in Tinton Falls filled the southern part of the borough with smoke on Tuesday night, prompting a substantial response from local and county firefighting units.

The fire, reported around 9 p.m., led to a strong odor of smoke across the area, according to the Tinton Falls Police Department. Tinton Falls Fire Companies, assisted by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department, and mutual aid fire departments from Wall Township and Ocean Township, worked together to contain the blaze.

Multiple units from District 36, along with fire departments from Wall Township’s Glendola and Ocean Township’s Wanamassa, were actively engaged in extinguishing the flames on the Mazza’s Recycling property located at 3230 Shafto Road.

As of Tuesday night, the fire was reported to be contained. No injuries or damage to nearby properties have been reported, though officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Local authorities advised residents to be aware of residual smoke in the area and thanked the responding agencies for their swift action.
