Cape Charles man wins $250K Cash 5 jackpot after early wake-up call

CAPE CHARLES, VA — John Lowe of Cape Charles had an early morning wake-up he’ll never forget when his wife told him he had won a $250,000 jackpot in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 with EZ Match game.

Lowe matched all five winning numbers—3, 9, 22, 29, 32—in the December 20 drawing to claim the top prize. He purchased the winning ticket at the Food Lion located in Cape Charles.

The retiree said he has no immediate plans for his six-figure windfall, but the prize marks a life-changing moment for the longtime lottery player.

Cash 5 with EZ Match is known for its rolling jackpots, which start at $200,000 and grow until a winner is drawn. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 1,221,759, making Lowe’s win an extraordinary feat.

The Virginia Lottery reminds players that all profits from lottery games go to benefit K-12 education in the Commonwealth.
