Cape Cod in shock after once deported migrant child molester arrested by ICE

Brazilian woman deported in 2007 returns illegally and is now accused of seven child sex crimes in Massachusetts.

FALMOUTH, Mass. — A 53-year-old Brazilian national previously deported from the United States was arrested on Cape Cod last month and charged with seven sex crimes involving a child, federal authorities announced.

Ilma Leandro De Oliveira, who was living in the U.S. illegally, was taken into custody March 20 in Falmouth by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), along with agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The arrest followed her March 18 arraignment in Falmouth District Court.

De Oliveira faces multiple charges including rape of a child, incest, indecent exposure, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and aggravated statutory rape of a child.

“Ilma Leandro De Oliveira is charged with seven different crimes regarding the sexual victimization of a child in our Massachusetts community,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde.

ICE records show De Oliveira first entered the U.S. illegally near Laredo, Texas, in 2007. She was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol on Sept. 20, 2007, and deported back to Brazil on Dec. 27, 2007.

Previously deported, reentered illegally

At an unknown point after her removal, De Oliveira reentered the U.S. without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by immigration officials, ICE said. Her recent arrest triggered a reinstatement of her previous removal order.

Following her apprehension, ICE transferred custody of De Oliveira to the U.S. Marshals Service on April 8. She is expected to face federal prosecution for illegal reentry after deportation.

Key Points

  • Ilma Leandro De Oliveira was previously deported in 2007 and reentered the U.S. illegally.
  • She is charged with seven child sex offenses in Massachusetts.
  • ICE transferred her to U.S. Marshals custody for prosecution on immigration violations.

Authorities allege De Oliveira posed a threat to the New England community and say she will face prosecution for both her immigration and criminal offenses.
