Cape May man charged in child sex assault case

Woodbine man arrested for alleged sexual assault of minor in Cape May County

WOODBINE, NJ – A 33-year-old man is in custody following his arrest Tuesday in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor reported late last month in Cape May County.

Brandon Anderson, of Lake View Drive in Woodbine, was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child after a joint investigation conducted by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New Jersey State Police Woodbine Barracks.

The investigation began on December 29, when authorities received a report of the alleged abuse. Investigators gathered evidence over several weeks before issuing an arrest warrant for Anderson. He was taken into custody on January 27 without incident and is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

The charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault is a first-degree offense in New Jersey and carries a potential prison term of 10 to 20 years. The charge also falls under the No Early Release Act, which requires offenders to serve at least 85 percent of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the victim or the circumstances of the alleged assault due to the sensitive nature of the case. Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland has urged anyone with additional information to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit or submit a tip anonymously online.
