Maspeth man convicted of murder in fatal Woodside bus stop stabbing

QUEENS, NY – A late-night argument that began after a man was removed from a neighborhood bar ended with a fatal stabbing at a Woodside bus stop, leading to a murder conviction that now carries a potential sentence of 25 years to life.

A Queens jury convicted 50-year-old Olmedo Osorio of Maspeth on Tuesday of second-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Freddy Jimenez, who was stabbed seven times during a confrontation in September 2022. One of the knife wounds pierced Jimenez’s heart, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The incident unfolded early in the morning after both men had been inside Pasiones Sports Bar on 69th Street. Trial testimony showed Osorio attempted to purchase drinks without enough money to pay and was eventually told by management to leave. Jimenez did not interact with Osorio while inside the bar.

Minutes later, Jimenez walked to a nearby bus stop. Osorio was seated across the street, and the two exchanged words. Jimenez crossed the street toward Osorio, who stood up and pushed him. The encounter escalated into a physical struggle, during which Osorio stabbed Jimenez multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Jimenez was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prosecutors said Osorio discarded the knife behind a nearby house after the attack.

The jury also found Osorio guilty of tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Deliberations lasted about three hours following a trial that began earlier this month.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Mary Bejarano scheduled sentencing for February 26. Osorio faces up to 25 years to life in state prison.
