Chaos in Silver Spring as man breaks into senior complex and assaults women

Silver Spring man charged after break-in and attempted sexual assault at senior living complex

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Montgomery County man is being held without bond after police say he forced his way into a senior living facility in Silver Spring, assaulted multiple women, exposed himself, and attempted to commit a sexual assault before fleeing the scene.

Officers arrested 31-year-old Darrell Dwayne Cousar of Silver Spring in connection with the incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at The Oaks at Four Corners, a senior apartment complex located in the 300 block of University Boulevard West.

Police said Cousar first assaulted an older woman to gain access to the secured building. Once inside, he began knocking on residents’ doors. A second woman was allegedly assaulted after opening her door to him. When a third woman opened her door, she reportedly saw Cousar exposing himself before he grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim screamed for help, prompting nearby residents to respond and call 911.

Cousar fled the scene before police arrived. Officers later located him while responding to a separate call for a trespasser on the fourth floor of a building in the 10700 block of Columbia Pike. Victims from the earlier incident were able to identify him, and police took him into custody without further incident.

Cousar was booked at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on multiple charges, including attempted second-degree rape, second-degree assault, third-degree burglary, third-degree sex offense, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct.

The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details about the victims’ conditions were released.
