Woman shot by Anne Arundel officers after wild carjacking rampage crashes through Severn
SEVERN, MD — A woman accused of carjacking a relative after a crash in Glen Burnie was shot by Anne Arundel County police after investigators said she drove directly at officers, struck a patrol vehicle and triggered a chaotic pursuit across Severn Thursday night.
The incident began May 7 at about 9:10 p.m. near North Crain Highway and 11th Avenue in Glen Burnie after officers responded to a reported hit-and-run crash.
Investigators said the woman crashed her vehicle into another car before forcibly taking a family member’s vehicle after the relative arrived to help following the collision.
Police later located the suspect vehicle in the 8500 block of Pioneer Drive in Severn.
Authorities said the woman drove toward responding officers, striking one officer, two patrol vehicles and a civilian vehicle.
Officers then fired their department-issued weapons, striking the suspect as she continued driving away from the scene, police said.
Additional officers later spotted the vehicle turning from Pioneer Drive onto Reece Road.
Investigators said the woman crashed into another civilian vehicle near Reece Road and Telegraph Road before jumping out and attempting to enter another occupied vehicle.
Detectives apprehended the suspect moments later.
Police and fire personnel rendered aid before the suspect was transported to a trauma center with what authorities described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The injured officer was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
Anne Arundel County Police Criminal Investigation Division detectives are leading the investigation.
Charges against the adult female suspect are pending.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending review by the Office of Professional Standards.
