Driver killed after car slams into tree on Hawkley Drive in Chesapeake

Chesapeake, VA – A man was killed early Thursday afternoon after his car veered off the road and crashed into a tree along Hawkley Drive, according to police.

Officers were called to the 4000 block of Hawkley Drive at approximately 1:08 p.m. for a report of a serious crash. When they arrived, they found a single vehicle that had left the roadway and collided with a tree. The driver, an adult male who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries or property damage were reported beyond the vehicle and the tree it struck. The identity of the driver has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Chesapeake Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
