Cumberland traffic stop leads to drug arrests after K-9 detects narcotics
Cumberland, MD — Two people were arrested early Friday morning after a police K-9 detected drugs during a routine traffic stop on E. Industrial Boulevard, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
At approximately 2:48 a.m. on January 16, 2026, an officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of E. Industrial Blvd. and Canal Parkway. During the stop, a K-9 unit was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.
A subsequent search led officers to locate suspected crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the car. The occupants — Garrett Lane Kniseley, 28, and Kayla Brenee Abe, 33, both of Cumberland — were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing.
Kniseley was charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Abe was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis. Both individuals were released after being issued criminal citations and are pending trial.
