CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Cumberland Police Department arrested Ben Richard Metheny, 46, on Sunday in connection with two active warrants stemming from separate incidents earlier this month.
Metheny was first wanted for an incident on June 6 at a residence in the 300 block of N. Centre Street. Authorities allege that Metheny assaulted a male victim using a beer bottle during the altercation. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued by the Allegany County District Court.
A second bench warrant was issued on June 8, charging Metheny with failure to comply with a court order related to prior obstructing and fraud charges. Specific details surrounding the original charges were not disclosed by law enforcement.
Metheny was located and arrested without incident on Sunday. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for processing.
“He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance, where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center,” police stated.
Suspect remains in custody without bond
According to authorities, Metheny is currently being held without bond pending future court proceedings. No information regarding legal representation has been made available at this time.
The Cumberland Police Department did not release further details about the ongoing investigation or any additional charges that may be filed in connection with the June 6 incident.
The charges against Metheny include second-degree assault and failure to comply with a court order. Second-degree assault in Maryland is classified as a misdemeanor but can carry significant penalties if convicted.
