Gunshot victim seeks help at fire station after neighborhood shooting
Around 6:50 p.m. on March 11, a man suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at DC FEMS Engine House 33, located at 101 Atlantic Street, Southeast. The individual was treated for his injuries, which were linked to a shooting that took place shortly before in the Unit block of Mississippi Avenue.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area and began working to identify the shooter.
Investigators make arrest one month later
Based on evidence gathered through video surveillance and follow-up investigation, police identified 39-year-old Davone Darnell Smith of Southwest, D.C., as the suspect. He was arrested on Sunday, April 13 and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue reviewing evidence.
