Death of 76-year-old woman in Manhattan ruled a homicide, police say

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – The death of a 76-year-old woman found inside her Lower East Side apartment Friday evening has been ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police announced.

Authorities identified the victim as Zhu Hou, who was discovered shortly before 8 p.m. on December 19 inside her home at 18 Monroe Street within the confines of the 5th Precinct. Responding officers found Hou unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her head and body.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. The Chief Medical Examiner later determined that her death was the result of homicide.

No arrests have been made, and detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
