Delmont officer and K-9 partner recovering after patrol car struck in Murrysville crash

Delmont, PA — A Delmont police officer and his K-9 partner were injured Sunday night after their patrol vehicle was rear-ended while responding to an emergency in Murrysville, prompting an outpouring of support from the community.

Officer Dylan Keffer and K-9 Dirk were assisting Murrysville Police at the scene of a prior crash on Route 22 when they were dispatched to another incident within the borough. While attempting to respond with emergency lights activated, their marked patrol vehicle was struck from behind by another driver.

Both Officer Keffer and Dirk were transported to a medical facility for evaluation. They have since been released and are now recovering at home.

Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar confirmed that the Pennsylvania State Police were requested to conduct an independent investigation of the crash. Multiple departments responded to assist at the scene, including Park Police, Monroeville Police, Murrysville Medic One, and several local fire departments.

The extent of the injuries sustained was not disclosed, but officials confirmed they were not life-threatening.
