Lakewood man sent to state prison for distributing child sex abuse material

Lakewood Township, NJ – A Lakewood man who shared child sexual abuse material online was sentenced Friday to a decade in state prison, closing a high-tech investigation that traced disturbing uploads back to his home.

Christopher Brondi, 67, was sentenced to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with a five-year period of parole ineligibility after previously pleading guilty to distribution of child sexual abuse material. The sentence was imposed by Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer. Brondi will also be subject to parole supervision for life and must register as a Megan’s Law offender.

The case began when the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Squad identified an IP address linked to a Lakewood residence that was being used to upload child sexual abuse material to the internet. Investigators later determined Brondi was responsible for the activity.

On Friday, May 29, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at Brondi’s home. An initial forensic review of electronic devices seized during the search uncovered fewer than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material. Brondi was charged and taken into custody at Lakewood Township Police Headquarters before being transported to the Ocean County Jail. He was later released under New Jersey’s bail reform guidelines.

A more extensive forensic examination revealed that Brondi had shared more than 25 files of child sexual abuse material using an online file-sharing program, supporting the distribution charge to which he later pleaded guilty.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer credited the work of the High Tech Crime Squad and Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Shanon Chant-Berry for bringing the case from investigation to conviction and sentencing.
