Authorities investigate animal conditions after warrant executed on rural property

Dorchester County, MD – An animal cruelty and neglect investigation is underway in Dorchester County after deputies discovered multiple animals in concerning conditions, including one dead horse, during a search of a rural property.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said the search warrant was executed Friday in the 6800 block of Gravel Branch Road, in coordination with county dog control officials and a certified veterinary specialist. The investigation followed complaints alleging animal abuse and neglect.

Veterinarians assess animals on site

“During the investigation, deputies located multiple animals and livestock, including horses and goats, on the property,” the sheriff’s office stated. “All animals were evaluated by a veterinarian.”

Officials said that based on the veterinary assessment, the animals did not need to be removed from the property. Instead, care recommendations were issued to address their condition.
