Drug Traffickers Sentenced in Miami Killing Over Missing Meth, Federal Authorities Say

MIAMI, FL — A dispute over roughly 11 pounds of methamphetamine led to the fatal shooting of a man in a Miami hotel room, with two traffickers now sentenced to decades in federal prison after admitting their roles in the killing. The drugs they believed were stolen had actually been seized by law enforcement, according to court documents.

Tsvia Kol, of Hallandale Beach, and Jimmy Sanchez, of Spring Valley, California, were both sentenced April 10 following a federal investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations and partner agencies. Sanchez received 27 years and six months in prison, while Kol was sentenced to more than 19 years.

Fatal Confrontation Captured on 911 Call

Prosecutors say the pair targeted the victim after accusing him of taking approximately $90,000 worth of methamphetamine. The confrontation unfolded inside a hotel room rented by the suspects, where the victim placed a 911 call during the encounter.

According to court records, the call captured the sounds of a struggle followed by gunfire. Investigators later confirmed that Sanchez admitted to shooting the victim, while Kol admitted she provided the firearm and acted as an accomplice.

Surveillance footage from the hotel showed both suspects fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. The victim’s body was not discovered until the following day.

Multi-Agency Investigation Led to Convictions

The case involved coordination across several federal and local agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the Hialeah Police Department, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the investigation ultimately uncovered that the drugs at the center of the dispute had already been seized by law enforcement prior to the killing—meaning the motive was based on a false assumption.

“This pair of criminals valued their drug haul more than they valued a human life,” said ICE Director Todd M. Lyons in a statement following the sentencing.

Key Points
• Two traffickers sentenced April 10 in Miami hotel killing tied to meth dispute
• Victim was accused of stealing drugs that had already been seized by law enforcement
• 911 call captured struggle and gunfire; both suspects admitted roles

Motive Rooted in Misinformation

The case underscores how misinformation within drug trafficking operations can escalate into deadly violence. Prosecutors emphasized that the belief the victim had stolen the drugs directly led to the confrontation and killing, despite the narcotics already being in law enforcement custody.

Federal authorities also highlighted the role of firearms in drug-related crimes, particularly when disputes arise over money or narcotics.

Current Status

Both Kol and Sanchez have been sentenced and will serve their prison terms in federal custody. The case is considered closed following their guilty pleas and sentencing, with no additional suspects announced.
