Dog found alone in flooded home after tenants forced out
PENN TWP., PA — A Pennsylvania couple is facing charges after police say they left a puppy behind in a flooded home following an eviction.
Officers responded in January to a residence along Route 130 after a landlord requested a welfare check, reporting heavy flooding inside the property and concerns about the former tenants.
When police entered the home, they found significant water damage, including a collapsed ceiling caused by flooding from an upstairs bathroom. Investigators determined the sink had been intentionally clogged, allowing water to overflow and damage the residence.
Inside the bathroom, officers discovered a dog without access to food or water.
Police identified the former tenants as Michael Albright and Heather Dunlap, who had recently been evicted from the property and were identified as the dog’s owners.
According to investigators, Dunlap told officers the dog had not been fed for about 48 hours due to lack of money for food.
Both Albright and Dunlap were charged with animal cruelty and neglect. Albright is also facing additional charges of criminal mischief for allegedly causing damage to the home.
Authorities noted that all charges are accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
