EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ — A fatal police encounter early Friday morning left one person dead and an officer injured in Burlington County, authorities said.

The incident happened around 4:40 a.m. near Route 73 and Greentree Road in Evesham Township.

Officials said one individual sustained fatal injuries during the encounter, while a police officer was taken from the scene for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, but road closures remain in place along Route 73 between Greentree Road and Lincoln Drive as the investigation continues.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has taken over the case, as required under state law for any death involving police.
