Man beaten by group with objects after billiards game turns violent in Wilkes-Barre

Wilkes-Barre, PA – A Scranton man was hospitalized with a head injury Saturday morning after he was attacked by a group of unidentified men inside and outside a business on Academy Street, according to Wilkes-Barre City Police.

Officers were first dispatched to 120 Academy Street at approximately 6:50 a.m. on February 1 for a reported assault. Upon arrival, individuals at the scene denied witnessing or knowing anything about the incident.

Roughly 30 minutes later, police were called to the 100 block of Old River Road, where they found the 33-year-old victim bleeding from a laceration to the top of his head. The man, whose identity has not been released, told officers he had been inside the Academy Street business playing billiards when he was suddenly attacked by five unknown males.

He reported being struck with various objects during the assault and said the attack continued outside the building before he managed to flee the area.

The victim was treated by EMS and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention. Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to identify the assailants.
