Fugitive wanted for shooting captured after police stop in DC

Washington, D.C. — A man wanted in connection with a 2024 Northwest DC shooting was arrested Tuesday after police discovered he had multiple outstanding warrants during a traffic stop.

The shooting occurred on July 25 at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Park Road, Northwest. The suspect fired at a moving vehicle, striking a woman inside and injuring another passenger with broken glass. The shooting victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

On March 11 at 2:53 p.m., Seventh District officers stopped 28-year-old Marquis Carter of Southeast DC near Southern Avenue and South Capitol Street for possession of a controlled substance. After confirming his warrants, police charged him with fugitive from justice, felony drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, and assault with a dangerous weapon for the 2024 shooting.

The case remains under investigation.
