Green Bay stabbing suspect charged after woman attacked in her home, police say

A 30-year-old man is accused of entering a Green Bay home and stabbing a woman in front of her children after claiming she was harming them.

GREEN BAY, WI – A morning disturbance inside a residential neighborhood escalated into a violent stabbing that left a 39-year-old woman hospitalized and a suspect in custody within hours, according to the Green Bay Police Department. Officers responded Tuesday after a reported stabbing and found the victim suffering from a chest wound. Authorities say the suspect, later identified as Justin Thomas Bacon, fled the scene on a blue mountain bike.

Investigators allege Bacon entered the woman’s home after overhearing her yelling at one of her children while he was visiting a neighbor nearby. Witnesses told police that moments after Bacon walked over to the house, they heard the victim scream. He was then seen leaving the home and riding away on a bicycle.

Witness accounts and victim statement

When officers arrived, the injured woman told them Bacon threatened her during the attack, saying, “You’re gonna die, you’re already dead.” She was transported to a hospital and survived her injuries.

During Bacon’s initial court appearance Thursday, the victim described the encounter in detail. “This man is dangerous. I didn’t even realize he was stabbing me until he stabbed me the fourth or fifth time on the right. My children watched me bleed out. He kept saying, ‘Die, b—, die. You’re dead now. You’re dying now.’ He wanted me to die,” she said.

According to the criminal complaint, Bacon allegedly accused the woman of hurting her children before the attack.

Arrest and prior conviction history

Police located Bacon about an hour after the stabbing. Authorities said he was found with clothing that appeared to have blood on it and believe he may have entered a river in an attempt to conceal evidence. Bacon denied involvement in the stabbing and told officers he did not know the victim.

Witnesses, including the neighbor Bacon had been visiting, told investigators that he had recently been released from prison. In court, Brown County Assistant District Attorney Amy Pautzke stated Bacon had been incarcerated until roughly three weeks prior, following a conviction stemming from a 2021 case in which he struck his stepfather multiple times with a baseball bat.

Bacon now faces charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, with modifiers for use of a dangerous weapon and repeat offender status, along with a burglary charge. He is being held at the Brown County Jail on a $750,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 2.
