WOONSOCKET, R.I. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has removed a 29-year-old illegal Brazilian national wanted in his home country for armed robbery, the agency announced Tuesday.
Juliano Araujo Dos Santos Silva was returned to Brazil on March 27 by ICE Boston’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team. He had been convicted in Brazil on October 2, 2017, of armed robbery with a firearm and sentenced to five years and four months in prison.
U.S. Border Patrol originally arrested Araujo on July 3, 2019, after he illegally entered the United States near El Paso, Texas. He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge.
On September 12, 2024, Brazilian authorities issued a warrant for Araujo’s arrest after he failed to serve his sentence. ICE located him in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and arrested him on January 13, 2025.
Removal follows immigration judge’s order
Following his arrest, a Department of Justice immigration judge ordered Araujo’s removal on February 18. ICE officers completed the removal on March 27, handing him over to authorities in Brazil.
“Rhode Island is not a safe haven for the world’s criminal element,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting field office director for ICE Boston. “ICE Boston will not tolerate alien criminals threatening the law-abiding residents of our communities.”
Araujo is now in custody in Brazil to serve his sentence.
