Infant killed, toddler wounded in Brooklyn shooting as killer indicted

Prosecutors say a 7-month-old girl was fatally shot when gunfire erupted into a crowd from a moped

Brooklyn, NY — A 7-month-old baby was killed and her 2-year-old brother wounded when gunfire was unleashed into a crowd in East Williamsburg, leading to a murder indictment against an 18-year-old Brooklyn man, prosecutors said.

Mathew Rodriguez was arraigned April 14, 2026, in Brooklyn Supreme Court on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, in connection with the April 1 shooting that killed Kaori Patterson-Moore, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

Infant killed, toddler injured in daytime shooting

Prosecutors allege Rodriguez was driving a moped while co-defendant Amuri Greene, 21, rode as a passenger and opened fire on a group gathered near Humboldt Street and Moore Street around 1:15 p.m.

Authorities said Greene allegedly fired multiple shots into the crowd, striking the infant in the head as she sat in a stroller. She later died from her injuries.

The child’s 2-year-old brother, who was also in the stroller, was grazed in the back by a bullet and survived, prosecutors said.

Arrests follow crash and investigation

According to the investigation, the suspects fled the scene on the moped, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street before crashing into a vehicle a few blocks away.

Greene was apprehended shortly after the crash, while Rodriguez was later arrested in Pennsylvania, authorities said.

Rodriguez now faces an indictment that includes three counts of second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, multiple weapons charges, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution.

Prosecutors describe “senseless” violence

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez condemned the shooting, calling it a devastating act of violence.

“Little Kaori was killed, and her two-year-old brother was wounded — all because of a decision to settle a dispute with gunfire, with no regard for who might be harmed,” Gonzalez said in a statement.

He added that the case has shaken the community despite historically low homicide rates in Brooklyn and pledged to hold those responsible fully accountable.

Co-defendant faces pending arraignment

Greene is expected to be arraigned on the same indictment, according to prosecutors.

The case is being handled by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau.

Ongoing case status

Rodriguez was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 10, 2026, as the case proceeds. All charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
