Bronx man gets 17 years for savage nightclub ambush

Bronx, NY – A man who stalked his former girlfriend outside a Bronx nightclub and shot her point-blank in the face during a jealous rage was sentenced to 17 years in state prison, prosecutors announced.

Arturo Paulino, 30, of the Bronx, was sentenced in Bronx Supreme Court after pleading guilty to attempted murder in the second degree. The sentence includes 17 years behind bars followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The violent attack unfolded late on June 4, when Paulino waited in his car outside a nightclub near Ogden and University avenues. Investigators said he watched for his former girlfriend to exit the venue and then followed her as she got into her vehicle with a male friend.

As the 39-year-old woman sat inside the car, Paulino pulled alongside her vehicle and fired a single shot at point-blank range, striking her in the face before speeding away. The shooting was captured on surveillance video.

The victim was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals Lincoln in critical condition. Prosecutors said she suffered a shattered jaw, lost multiple teeth, and endured more than two years of reconstructive surgeries. She was unable to work during her recovery, causing lasting financial strain on her family.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said the sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the lasting harm inflicted on the victim. Paulino entered his guilty plea in November.
