$1 million Powerball ticket sold in Lanham as jackpot climbs to $1 billion
Lanham, MD – A Powerball player who bought a ticket at a 7-Eleven in Lanham is now sitting on a $1 million winner after narrowly missing the record-chasing jackpot in Wednesday night’s drawing, as the top prize rockets to a staggering $1 billion.
The ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 7730 Finns Lane, matched all five white balls drawn—but not the red Powerball—earning its holder a second-tier prize of $1 million. As of Thursday, the winner had not yet come forward.
Two other Maryland players also won big in the December 10 drawing. One ticket sold at the Jameson-Harrison American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville matched four white balls and the Powerball with the Power Play option, netting $150,000. Another ticket, sold at Klein’s ShopRite in Bel Air, matched the same without Power Play, earning $50,000.
No ticket matched all six numbers, meaning the Powerball jackpot has now swelled to an annuity value of $1 billion, with a cash option of $461.3 million. It marks the seventh-largest Powerball jackpot since the game began in 1992.
The lucky Lanham ticket was one of 17 Maryland tickets worth $50,000 or more since the jackpot roll began on September 7. Several winning tickets remain unclaimed, including a $1 million prize from Clinton, a $150,000 win in Accokeek, and multiple $50,000 tickets sold in Baltimore, Silver Spring, and White Plains.
Maryland Lottery officials are urging players to double-check their tickets and sign the back immediately. Winnings over $25,000 must be claimed in person by appointment at Lottery headquarters within 182 days of the drawing.
Since the jackpot roll began, Marylanders have won $7.1 million in prizes, with Powerball sales in the state reaching $34.6 million. Retailers have earned nearly $2 million in commissions, and the state’s General Fund has received an estimated $8.6 million from ticket sales.
The last time Maryland produced a jackpot winner was in January 2021, when a $731.1 million ticket was sold in Lonaconing, Allegany County.
