LIVINGSTON, NJ — The Livingston Public Schools community is advised of a calendar modification for Monday, April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse scheduled from approximately 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Concerns have been raised regarding the safety of students and the broader community during the eclipse, particularly as it coincides with regular school dismissal times.
The potential risk of eye damage from looking directly at the eclipse without proper protection, along with the possible distraction and glare affecting drivers, have prompted consultations with the District Physician. In response, the Livingston Board of Education has decided to convert April 8, 2024, into an early dismissal day to ensure the safety of students, parents, staff, and bus drivers.
To accommodate this change, all outdoor activities will be suspended from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on the day of the eclipse. Additionally, lunch will not be served, and students across the district will be dismissed at the following times:
- Elementary Schools: 12:00 pm
- Mount Pleasant Middle School: 12:45 pm
- Heritage Middle School: 12:45 pm
- Livingston High School: 12:00 pm
Parents and guardians are encouraged to mark their calendars and make necessary arrangements to accommodate this schedule change. The Livingston Public Schools prioritize the safety and well-being of its students and community members and appreciates everyone’s cooperation in this matter.
