Loaded Gun Found During Dorchester Traffic Stop, 20-Year-Old Arrested After Allegedly Giving False Name

Boston police recovered a loaded handgun during an early morning traffic stop in Dorchester and arrested a 20-year-old Roxbury man who allegedly provided officers with a false identity and was wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.

A routine traffic stop in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood led to the recovery of a loaded firearm and the arrest of a Roxbury man early Saturday morning, according to the Boston Police Department.

Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) conducted the stop at approximately 12:27 a.m. near 18 Euclid Street after observing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed along Washington Street.

Police said the vehicle pulled over on Euclid Street, where officers immediately noticed unusual behavior from two occupants.

As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver and a rear-seat passenger exited without being instructed to do so. Officers ordered both individuals back into the vehicle, and they complied.

Loaded Sig Sauer Recovered

Additional officers arrived and removed all four occupants from the vehicle while conducting an investigation.

Police said officers discovered a bag in the right rear passenger area containing a firearm.

The weapon was identified as a Sig Sauer P239 .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

The rear passenger was taken into custody while the remaining occupants were identified and released at the scene.

Suspect Allegedly Gave False Identity

Police identified the arrested passenger as Tyshawn Barton, 20, of Roxbury.

According to investigators, Barton initially provided officers with a false name before his true identity was confirmed.

Authorities later determined Barton was wanted on a felony default warrant issued by Somerville District Court.

The warrant stemmed from charges including conspiracy to violate drug laws, possession with intent to distribute a Class B controlled substance, and motor vehicle-related offenses.

Multiple Firearm Charges Filed

Barton is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on several charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card, and furnishing a false name to police.

The vehicle’s operator was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for traffic violations, police said.
